Oh My Dear

Music & Lyrics by Trulah

Oh my dear,

I know you have no idea

just what a prize you hold

A treasure, a sort of gold

X marks the spot,

within your chest lies a heart

Not made with jewels or pearls,

but something much more than those

And from it flows more than you know

Oh my dear, many will pioneer

To dig up the wealth that's been

buried beneath your skin

But be on guard,

not everything's worthy of

The trail that leads to your heart

Don't leave a trace or mark

Cause from it flows more than you know

Oh, from it flows more than you know

Behind The Song:

Rooted in Proverbs 4:23 [Watch over your heart, for from it flows the springs of life], Oh My Dear deep dives into the importance of guarding one’s heart. It is so easy to allow access to the heart and just about everything these days stands at its doorway and knocks to be let in. Though, for many, the door is already open for entry.

I wrote this song as a sort of lullaby, not only be sung over others, but as a way of singing in retrospect to my younger self. I have experienced the wandering of the heart down paths not paved for me, and depending on how far one journeys, the way back, though it can be found, is often long and exhaustive.

With a haunting melody and minimal instrumentation, as if to tell a secret, my prayer is that the listener will take heed the warning and leave in examination of the heart. For there is One far more able to keep our feet on level ground, whom we can entrust the great responsibility of guarding our heart to. According to Psalms 25, to those who fear The Lord, will He make known His covenant. To those whose eyes are continually toward Him, will He pluck their feet out of the net and preserve them. Praise be to the Author and Finisher of our faith.
